yellow submarine movie

My new character style looks quite similar to the style of the yellow submarine movie. with the weird, freaky, psychedelic eyes and grin. This is interesting as i could make my whole style for the D and AD project like this. The idea for the project being a real life person interacting with my character through the computer screen. The portal into the computer could have this style, the computer could transform from being a boring white old computer with no name, into a HP imaginative creative computer bringing colour, psychedelia and objects to life.

new character

i used illustrator to create facial expressions for my character, and uvmapped them on top of the clothes i had put on him. As usual i wanted my character to have a quirky look, a strange personality! so i gave him the biggest cheesy smile, two different coloured eyes that scream at the camera. I changed the facial structure to suit his smile. The final image above has eyebrows and hair. I need to now rig him with bones so i can animate him for my D and AD project.

I used the 'hair and fur' modifier to create the lovely locks on my character. I learned how to make the hair longer, shorter, frizz, colour, spike and flop. The only trouble is i couldn't save the hair in the place i wanted it to stay, when i reopened the file it would be spread all over the character. so i would have to do this last i think. But i like the reddy coloured hair, it goes with the red hoody he is wearing.

modeling the ear and hood were the biggest challenges because once i extruded the polygons i had to then pull them back in to have that effect of the skin going back in and also that fold over of the hood.. but as a first attempt at more detailed modeling i think i have done pretty good.

First Animations in 3Dstudiomax

Using the same rig, i animated a few different walk cycles

Animated Christmas Card

Animated characters using Animestudio, and the snowglobe was done in Adobe After Effects, including the effects with the sun, the snow and the falling christmas wishes.

The Divided

Front cover for my 24 page utopia/dystopian story "The Divided."
The story is about a civilization much similar to the one we know today, but with a government bent on separating criminals from the other inhabitants using a machine called 'The Divide.'
This machine can determine someone as being 'criminally minded.' All these people get sent to another island in the hope that they will kill each other off. But two people find love on this enclosed island and have a baby. They take care of him until he gets to an age of understanding whats happened to them. They both die before committing crime and so the boy must find a way back to the "utopia" hoping he can tell everyone his parents story of love in a place were love shouldn't exist according to the system.

1st character mesh

This is the first character mesh i've done, made from one sphere...
im particularly proud of the facial structure, i was going for the Mr Incredibles big jawwed look and its work quite well, i need to rig it, uvwmap it with some clothes on then animate it.

First bloggin experience

So i have just created a BLOG. which means my work is exposed to the world which is quite exciting for me... im going to put some 'old school' work up and some new stuff too. The first image i will put up is something i did in my first year. The project was to create an alphabet in the style of an artist, my artist being Alex Pardee.
